Layoff Update:
The positions of 14 Staff Nurses in 5 departments (Endo, PACU, Outpt.,EASE, and
Urgent Care) have been eliminated or reduced by the current layoff.
Although in 4 of the depts., the Nurses identified are least senior in their depts.,
many of these Nurses have a lot of housewide seniority and specialized skills.
The SNA Board is working with these Nurses to identify and maximize their options.
Options may include applying for open posted positions in other depts., engaging
in the "bumping" process proscribed by contract, or accepting severance
and remaining eligible for recall. In addition, the Nurses in the Urgent Care
Centers are considering re-bidding positions in their dept. in order of seniority
since the Nurses identified for position elimination at the Rohnert Park center
are not the least senior amongst the two centers.
We have discovered several initial errors in Human Resource's calculation of seniority
dates. Per contract, seniority dates are equal to hire dates minus the time in
unpaid leaves of absence in excess of 30 days. Worker's Compensation Leaves do
not affect seniority dates. Human Resources is in the process of analyzing and
hopefully correcting their systems. We are assisting Nurses affected by the layoff
to check their records to assure that their dates are correct. We advise all nurses
to check their records and contact HR with any questions.
We are collecting and analyzing information concerning the loss of Care Partners,
Unit Secretaries and Techs and the impact that will have on Patient care and Nurse's
ability to deliver safe patient care. Stay tuned.....
